UPDATE: Sheriff’s Office Begins Investigation Into Lighthouse Apartment Fire

The King County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday (July 26) that Fire Investigators will soon be moving a crane onto the property of the Lighthouse Apartments, which burned in a three-alarm blaze on Sunday, July 24.

The crane will be used to remove debris from the upper floors of the building to give workers access to the apartment where they believe the fire started.

At this time investigators still do not know the cause of the fire.

The Lighthouse Apartments are located at 9820 Des Moines Memorial Drive, and as we previously reported, are owned and operated by the Union Gospel Mission.

The fire left around 30 people homeless. Two people were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with minor burns, including a man in a wheelchair who was rescued from his apartment by firefighters.

Eight fire departments, including the North Highline F.D., helped fight the blaze, which broke out around 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
