163862-250The first-ever White Center 5K Walk and Run – which will serve as a fundraiser for two local non-profits – is coming to White Center Heights Park on Saturday, Feb. 16.

“This first WC5K is a fundraising event to help promote a more healthy and active lifestyle for our families and friends of White Center,” reads an announcement.”All proceeds of this event will support the ongoing work of two local non-profit organizations – White Center Community Development Association (CDA) and the YES Foundation of White Center.”

This event is being organized by a team of youth from our community and college graduates from White Center with the support of the CDA and Yes Foundation,” said Sokha Danh of the White Center Community Development Association. “We will have the works – including an official timing service from Oregon that will come up to help time the event, booths with vendors and music!”

Sokha adds also that they are seeking sponsors, vendors, and volunteers, etc. to make this an even more successful event! Questions and comments can be directed to:

The 5K Walk and Run has three main objectives:

  1. Promote the positive and diverse culture that thrives in White Center
  2. Help to Promote local White Center businesses
  3. Promote a healthy lifestyle

In conjunction with these objectives organizers hope to raise money for two longtime organizations devoted to empowering the White Center community:

  1. White Center Community Development Association
The mission of the White Center Community Development Association (White Center CDA) is to promote a vibrant neighborhood and high quality of life for White Center residents and stakeholders through the development of authentic leadership opportunities, and community-led, neighborhood initiatives. We acccomplish this through our three lines of business: neighborhood revitalization, family development, and community building.
  2. YES Foundation of White Center
The YES foundation of White Center exists to address the social, economic, educational, physical, and spiritual needs of youth in the White Center area. By developing programs and partnering with other organizations, we provide kids with positive role models and powerful life experiences to encourage their hope and vision for the future.

… sounds like a wonderful idea, could we take it a step further and maybe have weekly/monthly walk around WC groups?

  2. Dollarsfordollars says:

…need to clarify please: WCDDA what have you done to “revitalize” the area near 112th and 12th SW that has an empty Thai Thai and Wendy’s restaurant, but has a county supported Drug and Alcohol complex near a Montesseri school?
