Body of Missing White Center Woman Found in Olympia

The body of Dana Kirkland, a White Center woman, has been discovered in Olympia, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Nisqually Valley News, on Feb. 28 detectives began investigating the discovery of human remains off Whitaker Road Northwest, west of State Highway 101.

Kirkland had been reported as a missing person to the King County Sheriff’s Office on Feb. 18.

According to reports, authorities believe Kirkland last accessed her computer on Dec. 27, 2012, most likely at her residence. That same day, a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox was reported stolen to the Seattle Police Department from near White Center. That vehicle was recovered at the end of Whitaker Road late on Dec. 27. Trackers from the King and Thurston County Sheriff’s Offices were able to reasonably deduce Dana had entered the woods from Whitaker Road not far from where the vehicle was located, according to the release. A K-9 track was conducted when the stolen vehicle was recovered, but was unsuccessful.

Based on the proximity of Dana’s residence to the location of the vehicle theft, combined with the location of the vehicle’s recovery in relation to where she was found, it is reasonable to believe that Dana may have traveled to Whitaker Road in that vehicle, the release stated. The sheriff’s office is asking for the public’s help with any information they may have on Dana Kirkland and her possible involvement with the stolen Chevrolet Equinox.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office at 360-786-5500 during business hours or at 360-704-2740 after hours. People may also contact the sheriff’s office via e-mail at [email protected] or through Twitter @thurstonsheriff.
