Highline Schools Foundation announces new $10,000 ‘Impact Grant’

The Highline Schools Foundation announced Monday morning (Aug. 26) that it will offer $10,000 to one school or program in Highline Public Schools this fall with its new “Impact Grant.”

The $10,000 grant is in addition to the Foundation’s Excel Grant program, through which they expect to award nearly $50,000 in grants to a number of district classrooms this year.

During Monday morning’s Highline Public schools All-District Meeting held at the Doubletree Hotel in SeaTac, Scott Gifford, President of the Highline Schools Foundation Board of Trustees, announced the Foundation’s new Impact Grant to an audience of nearly 2,000 district employees.

“This grant was created to promote innovation our schools, and to support the District’s new Community Strategic Plan,” Gifford said.

One requirement of the grant is that it aligns with the district’s new Community Strategic Plan, a draft of which can be found at www.highlineschools.org.

This grant was made possible by funding from Alaska Airlines and Matt Griffin YMCA.

“Thanks to our partners, we are able to make a more significant impact than ever before. We plan to continue our popular Excel Grants to support specific classroom needs—but the new Impact Grant offers resources on a larger scale—something we hope to do more of in the future,” said Ashley Fosberg, the Foundation’s Executive Director.

Online grant applications will be available on the Highline Schools Foundation website on Sept. 10, and must be received by Friday October 21, 2013. The grant winner will be announced at the District’s “State of the Schools” event in early November. Grant funds will be distributed by December 1, 2013.
