Third annual White Center Promise Summer Celebration is this Friday
The 2013 Promise Summer Celebration is the third annual event focused on the White Center Promise (WCP) Initiative, and will be held this Friday, Sept. 6 from 5 – 9 p.m.
it will take place at the Greenbridge Plaza, located at 9800 8th Ave SW in White Center.
Similar to last year’s event, the celebration will feature live performances and local delicious food for $2 per person. Highline Superintendent Dr. Susan Enfield will be the keynote speaker on Friday. Several local food trucks will also be on hand including Falafel King, Lumpia World, and Muy Macho. Families can receive free backpacks for their children along with a special gift for the parents, while supplies last. 1,200 people were in attendance last year and this event is expected to bring in the same number of attendees.
Sponsors for this year’s White Center Promise Summer Celebration include White Center Community Development Association, King County Housing Authority, United Healthcare, and Starbucks. Attendees can visit with representatives from the sponsors as well as other local organizations at the resource tables.
Artists scheduled to perform during the event are X8 Drummers, an Indian Storyteller provided by KCLS, Team Dynasty Dancers, WAPI kid performers, local artist JaWaan LaRue and a Seattle music artist Sam Lachow.
