United Way of King County seeking Volunteers to help with Taxes
United Way of King County is recruiting volunteers to serve the community through its Free Tax Campaign.
The Free Tax Campaign began in White Center more than 10 years ago, and while it has expanded significantly, it continues to serve White Center through sites located at the Providence Joseph House and the YWCA Greenbridge.
This is only possible with the help of White Center residents.
Here are three ways you can join us in helping White Center Families with the Free Tax Preparation Campaign:
- Become a Volunteer Tax Preparer. Learn a new skill and get excellent coaching along the way as you file taxes for thankful clients. As an individual volunteer, you’ll bring $30,000 in refunds to families in your community during your weekly shift from January 15 – April 15.
- Be an Intake and Benefits Specialist. Connect with every client who comes to the site, and refer them to life-changing benefits like healthcare coverage, basic food and money for college.
- Spread the word. We are looking both for community volunteers and organizations who want to share this valuable resource with their clients. You can order materials to help spread the word about our free tax preparation services here.
For both volunteer positions, no prior experience is necessary. United Way provides a full training before tax season, and ongoing support and coaching at your volunteer site.
Last year, the Free Tax Campaign Team brought $1.5 million in tax credits back to White Center families. To make an even bigger difference this year, volunteers can sign up at www.uwkc.org/taxvolunteer.
