PUGET SOUND WEATHER GEEK: What to expect from Wednesday’s rain
From our own Puget Sound Weather Geek:
Update 9:00AM: Rain and heavy showers with thunder and lightning lit up across the south eastern portion of the lowlands this morning. Rain is expected to cover the entire area and more embedded thunderstorms are possible.
Severe thunderstorms tracked over Oregon on Tuesday and bands of showers moved through Western Washington through the evening. and even more rain is expected fall on us starting Wednesday morning and lasting throughout the afternoon. What is the cause of this un-summer like weather?
Yet another upper level low pressure system is the reason. This unseasonably wet weather system might bring more than a half inch of rain to the lowlands today as well as bring a chance of some isolated thunderstorms.
As is true with almost all of these upper level systems, they’re most visible on visible satellite and in model outputs above 500mb (18,000ft). Cliff Mass is also mentioning that daily rain records for July 23rd could be broken.
Get your umbrellas out, but stay inside if you hear thunder.
