PHOTOS/VIDEO: Ground officially broken for new White Center Library

Ground was officially broken for a new King County Library branch at 1409 SW 107th Street in White Center on Thursday afternoon, March 19.

A tented V.I.P. section was cordoned off from heavy equipment, large tree limbs and mud, and it was chock full of local dignitaries, KCLS employees, board members and several cute kids thrown in just for fun.

The celebration was for a brand new, 10,000 square foot facility with “more materials, computers, wireless access, and space for children and teens,” according to KCLS.

Construction is projected to start sometime during the summer of 2015.

The Evergreen High School Campus Band played.


Free goodies – including a small shovel made up with seeds – were provided by the White Center Library Guild.


The shovels stood by, awaiting their use.


“I’ve got a hardhat, let’s get a good seat,” is what this kid appears to be saying.
