The Highline Bears played the US Military All-Stars on Friday night, June 19.

There were several special ceremonies to honor our military, our flag, and our nation. This game was full of unexpected surprises, mostly because of the sun and warm weather. In the second inning with the bases loaded and two outs, Myles Wesener (#11) hit an in-the-park grand slam….the All-Star player couldn’t find the ball because the sun was in his eyes. Colton Kelly (#3) came up to bat next and two All-Star players almost collided catching the third out.At the start of the third inning, a deep All-Star hit resulted in a bad collision between Myles and Kelly. Kelly stayed down while Myles somehow got up to get the ball. The All-Stars kept running until the umpire called time out to stop play. After being checked out, both players chose to stay in the game.

Suddenly, in the middle of a pitch, the home plate umpire called time out again. Myles needed help to get to the dugout! The paramedics were called for a possible broken collarbone and concussion. The crowd gave Myles a standing cheer as he was helped out of the stadium. Kelly was also checked out but was able to stay in the game.

Here’s a statement released by the Bears:

“We want to thank everyone for the well wishes for Myles Wesener, who left the game and after a collision in the outfield with Colton Kelly. Myles has a sprained collar bone and will be out for 2-3 weeks, he is in good spirits and eager to get back on the field.

Colton is doing well and resting up for the Bears tournament in Canada.”

Later, one of the All-Stars got a bad cramp running to first and had to be helped off the field. Shortly after that, a foul tip by the All-Stars made the crowd gasp….a ball landed in one of the All-Star player’s car window! It was definitely a strange game for the Bears….who won by the way…. 12-6.
