Serious injury sends TEC (Evergreen) football player to Harborview Friday night

A TEC (Technology, Engineering and Communications) student was seriously injured at Highline Memorial Stadium during Friday night’s (Oct. 2) football game against Highline High School.

He was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he underwent surgery.

As of 2:30 a.m., he was in intensive care.

“We do not have more information to share about his injuries at this time,” Highline Public Schools said in a statement. “Please keep this student and his family in your thoughts.”

The student’s identity, age, nor type of injury was released by the district.

TEC (aka Evergreen High) was playing against Highline in the annual homecoming game.

TEC is located on the old Evergreen High School campus at 830 SW 116th Street in White Center.

Here’s more from 11-year old Photojournalist Isabel Herbruger, who happened to be on the scene taking photos at the game:

With around 7:30 left on the game clock (at around 7 p.m.) I noticed a player on the Evergreen sidelines laying down and being cared for by the Highline Trainers.

I don’t know how or when the injury happened.

The game only stopped twice in the 3rd and 4th quarters to help injured players off the field; both were Pirates with limping leg injuries.

The medics arrived and were quickly brought in.

With 3:44 left on the game clock the ambulance came onto the field and the game ended early after a coach and ref meeting in the middle of the field. The announcer asked everyone to stay in the stands until the aide cars had left. The parking lot was really full with the next homecoming schools arriving at the same time.

We are really lucky to have trainers at our sporting events in Highline. They take great care of all players who come to our fields. I hope the TEC player gets better quickly, no one ever wants to end a homecoming celebration this way.

“Be Strong Evergreen….the Pirates are thinking of you!” Isabel added.

Everyone at The White Center Blog sends their most positive thoughts and prayers to this player, his family and his teammates.
