Life Skills to Work – Steps-2-Freedom at Bethaday Community Learning Space, located at 605 SW 108th Street in White Center.

Orientation Friday, December, 11th 5:30-7:30 p.m.:

When one family member becomes part of the prison and jail system, this has a huge impact on their family; losing income, family stability, and even housing. Moreover, it affects the livelihood of the family outside; single family households, social stigma, and the education of a child is adversely affected. Effective transition & reentry programs have proven to assist those with criminal backgrounds readjust to society and reintegrate into society while reducing recidivism and creating safer communities.

The White Center Community Development Association, South Seattle College, and a grassroots organization, Formerly Incarcerated Group Healing Together (F.I.G.H.T) plans to do just this by starting a transition & reentry process in White Center.

The Life Skills to Work – Steps-2-Freedom (LSW-S2F) process provides students with the Learn-to-Learn and Cognitive Behavior skill-sets needed for successful transition from prison and jail back to the community. The course work emphasizes practical skills development, assessment tools and application for successful education, training, re-employment and family reintegration student outcomes.

This program offers

  • Preparation-4-Re-Employment Process (PREP): 2nd Chance Employer Connections & 4WORK Solutions
  • Soft Skill Assessments: CASAS and Pre-Compass (assessment tools to evaluate adult skill-sets)
  • Process-4-Educational Excellence & Retention (PEER): Life Solutions
  • GED: assessment, preparation and testing-to-completion

Upon completion of this process, the successful community member will Earn-Up tuition support to attend South Seattle College to earn a certificate and/or degree. The process is age-specific 16-24 and 25+ and has an open enrollment policy that is customized for the student’s skill-sets.
