ELECTION RESULTS: School Bond, Sound Transit measures passing

Washington State Patrol Troopers and King County Elections staff manned the Ballot Box near City Hall on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

King County Elections posted the first round of results for Tuesday, Nov. 8’s General Election, and here are the early returns for local issues.

Final results of the election will be certified on November 29, 2016.


Highline School District Prop. 1, Bonds to Construct New Schools and Replace and Renovate Deteriorating Schools:

Ballots counted: 30,565

Registered voters: 67,043

Requirements for measure to pass: 60% yes vote and a minimum turnout of 4,982 voters

  • Approved: 18,913 • 64.97%
  • Rejected: 10,196 • 35.03%

South King Fire and Rescue Prop. 1, Levy of General Tax $2,750,000 for Maintenance and Operations:

  • Yes: 21,784 • 66.86%
  • No: 10,797 • 33.14%

Sound Transit Prop. 1, Light-Rail, Commuter-Rail, and Bus Service Expansion:

Requirements for measure to pass: simple majority

  • Approved: 298,089 • 58.57%
  • Rejected: 210,838 • 41.43%

Congressional District No. 7:

US Representative:

  • Pramila Jayapal (D): 124,896 • 57.36%
  • Brady Pinero Walkinshaw (D): 91,036 • 41.81%

Legislative District No. 33:

Representative Position 1:

  • Tina L. Orwall (D): 20,268 • 70.29%
  • John Potter (R): 8,536 • 29.60%

Representative Position 2:

  • Mia Su-Ling Gregerson (Dy): 18,836 • 65.85%
