Highline Bears hire Josh Evans as their 2017 Manager; opening day will be June 2
The Highline Bears recently announced the hiring of Josh Evans as their 2017 Manager.
Evans worked as a special assistant last year filling in the last three weeks of the season.
“Josh had great chemistry with all of the players last season and really helped us end on a good note.” said General Manager Justin Moser. When asked about his experience with the Bears in 2016 Evans was very enthusiastic: “I enjoyed the player/fan experience, it was really personal leaving kids with a everlasting positive memory.”
Evans will be entering his ninth year of coaching in 2017, having coached and assisted at all levels from youth select baseball up to the college level. Evans is expected to bring a wealth of energy to the table and help the organization grow on and off the field.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity to coach in an organization where baseball is more than just a game, it’s an avenue to make a positive impact in the community.” Evans added.
“We had a couple hundred applicants over the past few months with extensive resumes, a lot of experience, from all over the country. But at the end of the day we decided we wanted someone local, who can be dedicated to building our brand within the community twelve months out of the year, rather than just hiring a baseball manager for the summer. Josh understands our vision not only on the field but within the community, we see it as hiring a partner, not just a baseball manager.” Expressed Moser
“What I’m most excited about is being able to help build this organization the right way, with a focus being on the community, and giving young men with serious baseball goals a chance to get to the next level,” Evans said.
“Something we were very clear with upfront is that this is not just a managing baseball job. This is about getting into the community, creating partnerships, and building relationships with our community members & businesses. Josh is a great people person and is very passionate about what we’re creating, he’s the perfect guy for the job. When it comes to the baseball side of things he has a very high baseball IQ and that was evident last year when he helped put the us on a winning streak at the end of the season.” said Moser.
In the Bears’ first two seasons they have had an overall record of 28-28-1. During their first season they won the Kelowna International Baseball Tournament under manager Todd Coughlin, and last year they took a 4th place finish. This year the team opts out of the Kelowna trip and will be attending the Kamloops International Baseball Tournament where they hope to be very competitive.
“We are really focusing on setting up the most competitive schedule possible for our guys, we play three West Coast League teams, The San Francisco Seals, along with a very competitive league schedule.”
SEASON STARTS FRIDAY, JUNE 2!
Manager Josh Evans and the Bears will start their season on Friday, June 2 for their home opener at Mel Olson Stadium in White Center. The first pitch will be at 7:05 p.m.
A full game schedule and season ticket sales will be available online starting this Saturday, April 1.
“This is going to be an exciting season both for the players and our fans. We have a lot of exciting nights planned that will be a lot of fun for everyone who comes out,” Moser added.
