UPDATE: 34-year old man arrested in connection with rideshare rape case

The King County Sheriff’s Office is crediting extensive media coverage for Wednesday’s arrest of a 34-year old male as a ‘person of interest’ in an alleged rideshare rape that happened on Dec. 16, 2018 in White Center.

Police say that a family member recognized the man in photos and security cam footage (read our previous coverage, with video, here) and, a short time later, the 34-year-old male turned himself in.

Upon further investigation, the suspect was arrested Wednesday at his attorney’s office and booked into the King County Jail for investigation of rape.

As we previously reported, on Dec. 16, 2018 at approximately 12:15 a.m. the female victim was at a bar at the 5100 block of Ballard Ave NW in Seattle. She went outside to catch her rideshare home that a friend had ordered for her. A man in a black vehicle, possibly a Dodge Charger, led her to believe he was her rideshare driver.

The victim entered the vehicle. While driving her home, the victim states the man pulled the vehicle over and raped her near 11400 block of 5th Ave S. in White Center.

Surveillance footage captured the person of interest near the victim’s home. This subject was described as possibly Hispanic and spoke with an accent. King County Detectives have, at this time, been unable to associate the man with any rideshare company.
