LISTEN: 911 call audio from homeowner who shot & killed burglar released

UPDATE April 30, 2019: The King County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, April 30 released 911 call audio from the homeowner who shot and killed a burglar at his White Center Home on April 22.

Police say that the homeowner has been cleared by Detectives and will not face any charges for the shooting death of the 29-year old suspect who had broken into his home.

Below is audio of the actual 911 call (WARNING: some of the call contains disturbing audio content) made by the homeowner as he hid in the closet in his bedroom waiting for Deputies to arrive:

  • During the call you can hear crashing inside the victim’s house, which is the suspect.
  • At 3 minutes and 59 seconds into the recording, multiple shots can be heard over the phone line when the homeowner shot the suspect.
  • The only redaction to the audio file is the homeowner’s house numbers for privacy concerns.

The King County Sheriff’s Office 911 call receiver had only been off training for three weeks prior to this incident.

“She did an outstanding job keeping the homeowner calm during this traumatic incident as well as relaying all of the information to Deputies,” the sheriff’s office said.

The first two Deputies arrived on-scene within seconds of the shots being fired inside the home.

As we previously reported, on Monday, April 22 at about 2:40 a.m. near the 9800 block of 13th Ave SW, a homeowner who was home alone woke to the sound of a window shattering in the kitchen area of his house, and a short time later heard footsteps inside his house.

The 35-year old homeowner immediately called 911 and armed himself with a handgun. The homeowner hid in his closet while waiting for Deputies to arrive.

Prior to Deputies arriving on-scene, the 29-year old suspect opened the bedroom door and was shot by the homeowner. The suspect died at the scene.

There may have been a second suspect, but so far the investigation has not uncovered any evidence of the second suspect.

King County Major Crimes Detectives continue to investigate.

This is why you need to own a gun. Police response isn’t going to do the trick.

The problem with that is owning a firearm and using it correctly and with in law . This person seems to have done in this situation ( which personally I am glad they were able to do so) . But in some situations it can be very difficult and could lead to a court case with family of the suspect or prison time for the victim . If the victim has made any type of error or mistake’s . Could also lead to accidentally shooting a intoxicated family member that forgot a key and broke a window trying to climb in .

Good on this home owner. Cleaning up the mess that people like Heroine Dan Satterberg, Smack Daddy Dow Constantine, Pin Eyed Pete Holmes refuse to deal with.

I believe the guy did everything right that he could. Imagine yourself in his shoes… my heart was pounding just listening to the call. A homeowners worst nightmare right? What if he had kids and couldn’t get to them in time? I can’t even think about it. My issue is that his home was well kept, fully fenced, truck in the drive and they still broke in. Even with a tall fence to deter and a truck in the drive (you would probably think a man is home) they thought it was a good idea. Heroine is a hell of a drug and it will make you do unspeakable things. We have to protect our homes and families at all cost. Terrifying. Needless to say I have cameras, motion lights and protection and I still don’t feel entirely safe. White Center is up and coming and becoming a better place for families and I want it to continue on that path.
