King County Parks Family Halloween Carnival will be Saturday, Oct. 24
The Annual King County Parks Family Halloween Carnival is coming up on Saturday, October 24th from 2-5pm at the White Center Community Center, in Steve Cox Memorial Park (1321 SW 102nd in White Center). Doors open at 2 p.m. and admission is FREE. Local teens have planned nearly 30 different woodland-themed crafts and games for local children ages 10 and under. Tickets for each activity are sold for .25 each or 4/$1.00. King County Council votes to rename Lakewood Park as ‘Dick Thurnau Park’
On Monday (Oct. 12), the King County Council unanimously voted to adopt the renaming of White Center's Lakewood Park to Dick Thurnau Park. "Thurnau was an activist, amateur historian and a recognizable face in the White Center community," the council said in a statement. The White Center Food Bank's 11th Annual Harvest Dinner and Auction will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015 with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and dinner starting at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the Brockey Conference Center at South Seattle College, located at 6000 16th Ave SW. Auctioneer will be Dave Rickman of the Stokes Auction Group. Evergreen football player Kenney Bui passes away from game injuries
Tragic, heart-breaking news out of Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Monday (Oct. 5) – Evergreen High School football player Kenney Bui has passed away, apparently from injuries he suffered at Friday night's game against Highline High School in Burien. White Center Deputy Dan Shaw honors career with final class act at retirement
Dan Shaw, who worked as a King County Sheriff's deputy in White Center for the last 27 years, completed his final service to the community by feeding the homeless. The Sheriff’s Office hired Shaw in 1988 after he left the US Air Force. Shaw happily worked the vast majority of his career serving the citizens of White Center. On Aug. 23, his last day as a deputy, Shaw bought eight buckets of chicken and all of the sides to feed the homeless in the community where he loved to work.
