The White Center Food Bank will host a series of upcoming community events this spring and summer, including the debut of a new recipe book, a benefit concert and the return of its annual “Taste of White Center” food festival.
The organization will preview its first recipe book, titled “Bringing People Together, One Plate at a Time,” on Thursday, April 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. during the Rat City Art Walk.
The book features recipes from customers, staff and community partners, highlighting the diverse cultures and flavors of the White Center community. Attendees at the preview event will be able to sample light appetizers and beverages, view the book and place pre orders. An official launch date will be announced later.
The food bank will also host a benefit concert on Friday, May 8 at Tim’s Tavern, running from 7 to 10 p.m. The event will feature performances by Roxbury Saints, The Kings of Seattle and The Pazific. Proceeds from ticket sales and donations of shelf stable food will support the food bank’s programs.
Looking ahead to summer, the White Center Food Bank will present its fifth annual Taste of White Center on June 20 from Noon to 3 p.m. The event will feature more than 35 participating restaurants offering a variety of foods, including banh mi sandwiches, tacos, bubble tea and shave ice. Attendees can purchase $5 tickets to sample dishes, and the event will also include a kids area, music and other activities.
ABOUT THE WHITE CENTER FOOD BANK
White Center Food Bank began in the mid-1970’s as an emergency response to assist struggling families and individuals in the greater White Center and Highline areas during a major economic downturn. Much like today, many in the community were faced with difficult economic conditions that left them in need of food resources. We were there then. We are here now.
Current food bank programs include daytime, and seniors-only food distributions; expanded home deliveries; mobile food bank program to three senior housing sites; pop-up food pantries; a Baby Pantry providing formula, baby foods and more; cultural foods buying program and grocery rescue. Intake services are provided in nine languages.
In 2025, we served 13,977 individuals (125,956 individual visits), 5,237 households (52,833 total household visits) and distributed 1,392,937 lbs of food.
