Northbound SR 99 is closed at South Holden Street after the First Avenue South Bridge became stuck in the open position due to a mechanical issue, with no estimated time for reopening, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
WSDOT said that maintenance crews remain on scene troubleshooting the issue.
There is no ETA on when the bridge will return to normal operations, and until then it is closed to vehicle traffic.
“Travelers should use alternate routes but are advised that we are seeing lengthy backups on these routes,” WSDOT said.
WSDOT will provide updates as more information is available.
