More than 2,000 white lights now stretch across rooflines in the heart of White Center, and residents are invited to a community celebration on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 3:50 p.m. to mark the start of the holiday season, according to information provided by King County’s Department of Local Services.

The lights were installed along the 16th Ave SW corridor between SW 100th Street and SW Roxbury Street through a collaboration between the Department of Local Services and the White Center Business Alliance.

The county said the lighting symbolizes community spirit and is the first step in a larger effort to improve the look and feel of the neighborhood.

The celebration will take place at the corner of 16th Ave SW and SW 98th Street (map below). Officials said attendees can expect free refreshments and a family friendly atmosphere.

According to the county, the installation is part of a broader initiative that will begin in 2026.

The effort includes expanded street lighting to create safer and more welcoming public spaces, a community clean up event, graffiti removal in partnership with Uplift NW, and mural projects.

The lighting project was chosen by residents through the King County Participatory Budgeting process.

Renova Exteriors installed the holiday lights.

“Come see the lights, celebrate with neighbors, and be part of the transformation of White Center — where community pride shines brightest,” officials said.
