DESCRIPTION:St. Francis Scout Troop 375/8375 will be hosting their annual Christmas Tree recycle event on Saturday and Sunday\, Jan. 6-7\, 2024\, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at their usual location at the Burien Eagles (map below). \n“Please come and support our efforts to earn money for Scout camps and other adventures\,” organizers said. \nCost is $5 per tree\, which you can drop off at the Eagles parking lot\, located behind the old Countryside Cafe location. \nCurbside Pick Up Available\n“This year again\, we are offering a curbside pick up for those who don’t want to leave their house. DESCRIPTION:From our friends at WABI Burien: \n\n\n\nAll are invited to discover three of Burien’s 25 City Parks on January’s New Year’s Walk-n-Talk this Sunday\, Jan. 7\, 2024: \nDate: Sunday\, Jan. 7\, 2024 (Rain or shine.) \nTime: Meet-up at 2:00. Walking starts at 2:15. \nPlace: Meet at Hazel Valley Park\, 251 SW 126th St. On-street parking. \nWho: Walkers of every level and ability  (Furry friends are welcome\, too.) \nRoute: We’ll start our walk at Hazel Valley Park\, make a northern loop around several blocks then pass by Puget Sound Park. We’ll take the foot bridge up and over 1st Avenue South\, then head north and west to Arbor Lake Park. From there we’ll head east\, south\, then back west\, returning back to Hazel Valley Park. \nDistance: About 2.75 miles\, round trip\, mostly flat\, with some sidewalks. Everyone walks at his or her own pace. \nThis is a FREE activity and draws people of many ages. Just come chat with people you wouldn’t otherwise meet up with! \nFor a small city\, we have many gems of green space tucked here and there in various neighborhoods. \nClick here for the City’s map of it’s parks: City of Burien Park System Map \nMore information about Burien City Parks\, Trails and Facilities. \n\n\nHazel Valley Park – 251 SW 126th St.\, Burien: Located in North Burien\, Hazel Valley Park is 2.9 acres and can be accessed from 124th St. The park offers a paved walking trail neighbored by a grove of mature fir trees. \n\n\nPuget Sound Park – 135 SW 126th St.\, Burien: This 5-acre park is located along 1st Avenue North in north Burien. The former King County Park was acquired when the City of Burien annexed the area in 2010. This park features a .25 mile walking trail\, playground\, basketball court\, picnic tables\, and benches. The park features an on-site parking lot. \n\n\nArbor Lake Park – 12380 2nd Ave. S.\, Burien: This 8.5-acre park includes a small lake. The lake is the headwaters for Miller Creek. Residents from the neighborhood around the Park have been very active in working to restore the park and clean up the areas around the lake (view photos).
