DESCRIPTION:A Celebration of Life for Leticia Martinez-Cosman will be held on Saturday\, July 1\, 2023\, from 12-5 p.m. at the Alki Masonic Center. \nFamily & friends are welcome. \nAs we previously reported\, Leticia went missing for several days after attending a Seattle Mariners game with a man on Mar. 31\, and her body was found in Renton April 11. \nIf she looks familiar\, that’s because Leticia was the owner in the 2000s of a coffee shop called Cafe Rozella on Delridge Way in White Center\, where she hosted community events in support of cultural diversity\, live music\, and local AA meetings. \nMartinez-Cosman was also the caretaker of her special needs son Patrick\, who needs full-time care. \n“He will have extensive physical and mental health needs in the days and months ahead and we cannot do it alone\,” family members said. \nShe is deeply loved and supported by her family and friends\, and two GoFundMe fundraisers are currently active: \n\nhttps://www.gofundme.com/f/help-for-leticia-martinez-cosmans-son-patrick\nhttps://www.gofundme.com/f/justice-for-leticia-martinezcosman-disappearance\n\n \n \nThe Alki Masonic Center is located at 4736 40th Ave SW in West Seattle:

DESCRIPTION:The Burien Art Market (BAM!) in the Garden is returning to the New Start Community Garden on Saturday\, July 1\, 2023\, from 1 – 5 p.m. \nThis fundraiser event is different from what might be expected from a fundraiser – it’s located in a blooming garden! \nBAM! features local artists selling original arts and handmade crafts. \nBring a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy the entertainment and music from the stage. \nThe July 1st event features 4 performers: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDancer/percussionist Etienne Cakpo\, from Benin\, West Africa\, shares his dance style and expression.\nJanelle Bel Isle dances in many styles from the middle east to the Balkans.\nChet Corpt brings sweet sounds on the melodious Kora\, an African harp lute made from a gourd.\nThe 4th performer\, Bob Antolin\, is a multi-instrumentalist playing guitar\, flute\, and saxophone.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Shark Garden (named after the school’s mascot) is also known as the New Start Community Garden\, is a dynamic community gathering space worth a brief history and description to set the stage of BAM! fundraising party. \nLocated in the old baseball field of the Salmon Creek Elementary School\, the 1.6-acre garden is now filled with greenhouses\, pea patches\, an orchard\, a plethora of flowers\, a native plant garden\, and more. \nThe garden produces approximately 4\,000 pounds (1\,800 kgs) of food annually and focusses on veggies and herbs used in international recipes and dishes used by our diverse community. The garden produce is harvested by volunteers and is donated to White Center Food Bank. \nSolar Power runs the irrigation system\, music for events\, and power for cooking classes\, making the garden eco-friendly and sustainable. \nA music stage in the old baseball batting cage\, now covered with flowering vines provides a lush\, green backdrop for musicians and speakers. \nThere’s artwork on the garden fences from local artists\, sculptures created by students at the New Start High School\, and an Orca mural to enjoy while strolling along the pathways. \nPea patches are available for $30 per year. So\, if you want to be part of this garden\, there’s a spot for you on the waiting list at SharkGrden.org. \nThis fundraiser supports Burien Arts throughout the year. SUMMARY:'FREE' Tree Point Giveaway Day weekend will be July 8 & 9
DESCRIPTION:A new way to give away – or get – free stuff is coming to Burien’s Three – or ‘FREE‘ – Tree Point neighborhood the weekend of July 8 & 9\, 2023 – an inaugural “Giveaway Day” event. \n\n\n\nThe Plan: \n\n\n\n\nOn Saturday\, July 8 and Sunday\, July 9\, 2023\, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.\, residents of Three Tree Point who live on SW 172nd Street\, SW 171st Street\, Three Tree Point Lane and Maplewild Ave SW are encouraged to set out things they don’t need anymore outside their homes/driveways.\n\n\n\nWe strongly suggest adding a “FREE STUFF” sign to indicate that stuff is free and up for grabs.\n\n\n\nOnce stuff is out and labeled\, it’s up for grabs in a kind of free neighborhood giveaway event – just drive/stroll through the area and take what you like!\n\n\n\nThere will be no “holds” allowed on items – everything is up to you to haul and you cannot knock on doors or bother homeowners. It’s first come\, first served!\n\n\n\nThere is no main organizer to this event\, and we strongly encourage participants to treat it as an experiment to see if it works.\n\n\n\nRemember – put out some good stuff you don’t need\, not junk or garbage\, and let’s turn this neighborhood into FREE Tree Point!

SUMMARY:Speed legend Steve Huff will be Grand Marshal of Saturday's Waterland Parade
DESCRIPTION:Steve Huff has been a resident in around Burien\, Des Moines\, and SeaTac for over 25 years with his motorcycle shop Steve Huff Motorsports and racing teams – but this Saturday\, July 22\, he’ll slow down enough to serve as Grand Marshal of the 2023 Waterland Parade. \nThe Parade will begin its northward march through downtown Des Moines\, starting at 5:45 p.m. this Saturday\, July 22\, 2023. \nHuff\, originally from Whidbey Island\, has over 20 national and world speed records on 2 wheels and 4 wheels. He is living with his cancer diagnosis under the watchful eye of the Seattle Cancer Care Center\, Fred Hutch\, and UW Medical Center\, and has received 3 rounds of radiation on his spinal tumor and 6 rounds of chemo in 2021. \nHuff says\, “2022 was the best year of my life!”\n \nWhile receiving immunotherapy and bone density therapy sessions in 3-week cycles\, Huff and the Huff Motorsports racing teams also accomplished some amazing feats: \n\nFaster Than Cancer Electric Dragster set 2 new World Speed Records as the only 200+mph electric dragster.\nFaster Than Cancer Electric Dragster appeared at 4 NHRA Nationals Events from coast-to-coast.\nFaster Than Cancer Hydroplane e350 wins the APBA National Championship.\nHuff with Destination Harley-Davidson designed and built a new Superhooligan Motorcycle for competition.\n\n \nIn 2022\, Huff – along with Des Moines resident Jill Andrews\, and Bardi Martin (formerly of Candlebox) – formed the Faster Than Cancer Foundation 501c3 to inspire\, educate and support our community living with a cancer diagnosis along with a scholarship program for trades/vocational education. This is an extension of Steve’s lifelong dedication to working with youth including neurodivergent youth. \n \nSummer Waterland Festival\, Seafair-sanctioned community events include \n\nWaterland Car Show – July 9\, 2023 at Des Moines Marina.\nWaterland Jr Parade and Grand Parade – Saturday\, July 22\, 2023 – Starting at 5:45 p.m. along Marine View Drive.\nWaterland Children’s Event Pirates Cove – Saturday\, July 22nd 12 – 4 p.m. at the Des Moines Beach Park.\nWaterland BBQ – Sunday\, July 23\, 2023 – 12 – 5 p.m. at the Marina Beach Park.\n\nHuff adds: \n“I am humbled and honored to accept the title of Grand Marshal at the Waterland Parade. \n“If someone had said this would happen to me back when I was living and having Waterland parties in the old apt on Marine View Drive above what is now Eight Dive Shop\, I would have laughed. \n“We’ve come a long way and I can’t thank Destination Des Moines enough for giving me this honor. \n“And Thank You to all of the Des Moines businesses that have supported our racing throughout the years.” \nFind all of the information about Destination Des Moines (DDM) Community Events and the Waterland Festival Summer Events at www.DestinationDesMoines.org. \nTony Hettler\, President\, said: \n“DDM is thrilled and honored to have Steve Huff as our 2023 Grand Marshal.” \nDestination Des Moines is a volunteer organization that provides free family-friendly events in the Des Moines Community.
