SUMMARY:Roxhill Bog restoration work party will be Saturday\, April 20
DESCRIPTION:After a hiatus due to COVID-19\, the Roxhill Bog restoration project is back on track\, and volunteers are needed for a work party on Saturday\, April 20\, 2024\, from Noon – 2 p.m. \n“The good news is if you have visited the Bog lately\, the dense thickets have been thinned out with a lot of brush removed by Seattle Parks and Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association (DNDA)\, making it not only safer but also a healthier ecosystem for everyone to enjoy\,” organizers said. \nAdditionally\, several community events were held last year\, including nature walks and a tree giveaway. \nThe project’s primary focus remains restoring the Bog’s hydrology. Following an in-depth study by Natural Systems Design (NSD)\, a unique design to capture and retain water in the peat cells was developed. Construction costs\, however\, have risen significantly since the initial planning stages. \nFortunately\, a King County Waterworks Grant has been secured to construct a pilot cell for testing purposes. Permitting with the city is underway\, with construction anticipated to begin in 2025. Project updates will be posted on kiosks within the park. \nVolunteer Opportunities Available\nCommunity members are encouraged to volunteer in various capacities. Andrea O’Ferrall\, the park’s Green Seattle Partnership steward\, is hosting an Earth Day work party on April 20\, 2024. DNDA also organizes regular volunteer events for invasive plant removal\, mulching\, pruning\, and native plant installation. \nMore info here: GSP Volunteer Information Link \nDNDA holds many volunteer work parties throughout the year\, removing invasive plants\, mulching\, pruning\, and planting natives. To view our schedule and register for volunteering go to DNDA’s website here: DNDA Volunteer Information Link \nRoxhill Bog Needs Your Voice!\nSeattle Parks is asking the community to provide ideas for improving their parks to advance park equity. They will be investing $5.2 million in park projects based on community members input. \nAbout the Project: \nThe Park CommUNITY Fund will advance park equity in Seattle through a community-led funding process by: \n\nExpanding inclusive access to clean and safe parks that foster healthy people\, thriving environments\, and vibrant communities.\nClosing gaps in access to quality parks and park facilities that disproportionately affect frontline communities.\nCentering efforts in partnership and transparency with communities to build ongoing trust\, relationships\, and investment.\n\nWho Can Participate:\nIf you live\, work\, attend school or an organization\, or volunteer in Seattle you can participate. (You do not have to be a resident.) \nHow To Participate: Submit a demographic and idea questionnaire either online or hardcopy form. Link to Questionnaires in Multiple Languages. \nSubmission Dates: March 18 until April 30\, 2024. \nOnline Submission: Complete a short demographic survey and submit an idea on the “Project Selection” page or sign up to be a Community Delegate. Online Park Idea Submission. \nHardcopy Submission: Email: ParkCommunityFund@Seattle.gov for survey. \nAdditional Information: Visit Parks About page to learn more about the program and Events page for upcoming office hours or events. \nContact: Program Managers: Shaquan Smith and Rachel Banner at ParkCommunityFund@Seattle.gov. \nContact Information\nFor more information on the Roxhill Bog restoration project or to volunteer\, contact: \n\nSharon Leishman\, Duwamish Alive Coalition: info@duwamishalive.org\nCaroline Borsenik\, Delridge Neighborhood Development Association: caroline@dnda.org\n\nFor details on the Park CommUNITY Fund\, contact: \n\nProgram Managers: Shaquan Smith and Rachel Banner: ParkCommunityFund@Seattle.gov\n\nMore info here: https://roxhillpark.wordpress.com/roxhill-bog-stewardship-and-restoration/
