DESCRIPTION:The City of Burien is kicking off a celebration of LGBTQIA+ Pride Month by raising the Pride flag over Burien City Hall in a ceremony to be held on Thursday\, June 1\, 2023 from 10-10:30 a.m. \n\n\n\nCity Councilmembers and members of the Burien Pride Committee – a community-led group that organizes Burien’s annual Pride event – will provide remarks during the speaking portion of the program.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe community is invited to be part of the event and watch the flag be raised.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe inclusive Pride flag\, which represents multiple identities within the LGBTQIA+ community\, will fly over Burien City Hall throughout the month of June. This will be the third year that a Pride flag has been raised.\n\n\n\n\n\n“This flag is a representation of our celebration of Burien’s diverse community\,” said Adolfo Bailon\, Burien City Manager. “We stay committed to fostering an inclusive work environment here while also addressing systemic barriers to inclusion for all throughout our city.”\n\n\n\n\n\nDiscover Burien will again hang Pride flags on light poles throughout downtown Burien.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Burien Pride event will be held in downtown Burien the weekend of June 3-5\, 2023. The all-day street festival will feature music\, DJs\, a beer garden\, and over 100 vendor booths in Burien Town Square and surrounding streets.\n\n\n\n\n\nOn May 22\, 2023\, the Burien City Council will issue a proclamation in honor of LGBTQIA+ Pride Month during their regular meeting at Burien City Hall. The community is invited to the reading of this proclamation celebrating our LGBTQIA+ community members.

DESCRIPTION:From our friends at WABI Burien: \n\n\n\n\nBurien is developing an update to the Transportation Master Plan and Parks\, Recreation\, and Open Space Plan and wants to hear from local community voices to understand what to change\, keep\, and improve. \nThat’s where YOU come in – representatives from Public Works and Parks\, Recreation and Cultural Services (PaRCS) will join this Sunday\, June 4’s Walk-n-Talk to discuss your ideas for Burien. \nWe’ll meet at Burien Town Square Park\, and walk north into the Chelsea Park neighborhood\, then back to Town Square. \nDate: Sunday\, June 4\, 2023 (Rain or shine.)\nTime: Meet-up at 2:00 p.m. Walking starts at about 2:15.\nPlace: Meet AT THE NORTH EDGE of Burien Town Square Park. 400 SW 152nd St.\nNote: The Burien Pride Festival will still be going on Sunday\, so Town Square Park will be hoppin’ (and parking will be slimmer than usual. You may get added steps for the day as you park farther away and walk to the park.)\nWho: Walkers of every age\, level and ability

The plan was last updated in 2012. We need your ideas about how to keep our transportation network safe\, healthy\, and efficient. \nThe Parks\, Recreation\, and Open Space Plan (PROS Plan) is a six-year strategic plan for the Parks\, Recreation and Cultural Services Department. The plan will look at the existing conditions of our facilities and programs\, listen to community desires and priorities\, identify gaps in facilities and programs\, propose strategies\, projects and programs to address those gaps\, and finalize those strategies and a prioritized capital improvement plan in the final PROS Plan. \nWant to get a jump start on the conversation? Think about the following questions to discuss while walking along on June 4th: \nTransportation\n\nTell us about how you get around Burien. (e.g. Where are you typically trying to go from your home? How do you get there? What parts of town\, which services\, and which parks do you use?)\nWhat does safety mean to you? What areas are not?\nWhat kinds of projects would you like the city to focus on to make it easier for you to walk in Burien? How do those make you feel?\nWhat do you want to make sure we know for this plan?\n\nParks\n\nHow important is it for you to be able to walk to a park from your home?
