SUMMARY:Roxhill Bog restoration work party will be Saturday\, April 20
DESCRIPTION:After a hiatus due to COVID-19\, the Roxhill Bog restoration project is back on track\, and volunteers are needed for a work party on Saturday\, April 20\, 2024\, from Noon – 2 p.m. \n“The good news is if you have visited the Bog lately\, the dense thickets have been thinned out with a lot of brush removed by Seattle Parks and Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association (DNDA)\, making it not only safer but also a healthier ecosystem for everyone to enjoy\,” organizers said. \nAdditionally\, several community events were held last year\, including nature walks and a tree giveaway. \nThe project’s primary focus remains restoring the Bog’s hydrology. Following an in-depth study by Natural Systems Design (NSD)\, a unique design to capture and retain water in the peat cells was developed. Construction costs\, however\, have risen significantly since the initial planning stages. \nFortunately\, a King County Waterworks Grant has been secured to construct a pilot cell for testing purposes. Permitting with the city is underway\, with construction anticipated to begin in 2025. Project updates will be posted on kiosks within the park. \nVolunteer Opportunities Available\nCommunity members are encouraged to volunteer in various capacities. Andrea O’Ferrall\, the park’s Green Seattle Partnership steward\, is hosting an Earth Day work party on April 20\, 2024. DNDA also organizes regular volunteer events for invasive plant removal\, mulching\, pruning\, and native plant installation. \nMore info here: GSP Volunteer Information Link \nDNDA holds many volunteer work parties throughout the year\, removing invasive plants\, mulching\, pruning\, and planting natives. (You do not have to be a resident.) \nHow To Participate: Submit a demographic and idea questionnaire either online or hardcopy form.
