SUMMARY:WABI Weekday Walkers will explore Duwamish Gardens park on Wednesday\, Nov. 15
DESCRIPTION:From our friends at WABI Burien: \n\n\n\n\nAll are invited to join the WABI Weekday Walkers as they explore another little-known local park\, Duwamish Gardens\, located in Tukwila\, on Wednesday\, Nov. 15\, 2023\, starting at 9 a.m.  \n\n\n\nTucked away amongst roads and industrial buildings and adjacent to the Duwamish River\, the park provides an oasis for wildlife and people\, alike. The Tukwila government website says: \n\n\n\n\n“Duwamish Gardens is a 2.34-acre park and salmon habitat restoration site that includes [areas] of mudflat\, emergent marsh and riparian and upland forest habitat. While the site is primarily targeted for use by juvenile Chinook salmon\, the site has been used by adult salmon\, harbor seals\, river otters\, great blue heron\, osprey\, hummingbirds and several species of waterfowl and shore birds.”  \n\n\n\n\nBesides providing access to the Duwamish River\, the park offers a gathering circle and an art piece called The Wind which is inspired by the southern Puget Sound Salish oral tradition.  \n\n\n\nRead more about the park here. \n\n\n\nOur walk will begin at the Tukwila Community Center where there is plenty of parking. We’ll generally follow the river west and north along the Green River Trail to get to the park. The round-trip distance is a bit under 3 miles on flat\, paved surfaces. Expected duration is about an hour. \n\n\n\nDate: Wednesday\, Nov. 15\, 2023 (Rain or shine.)Time: Meet a little before 9am so we can begin walking at 9:00.Place: Tukwila Community Center parking lot\, 12424 42nd Ave S\, Tukwila\, WA 98168Who: Walkers of every level and ability (dogs are welcome\, too.)Distance: About 3 miles\, round trip.
