The King County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that on Dec. 21, 2019 at about 2:10 p.m. in the 10600 block of 16th Ave SW in White Center (map below), a man wearing a fuzzy hat fired a handgun in to the air and took off running.

Deputy Manuel and several of her partners responded to the scene, where they found a vehicle that had been hit by gunfire.

“Deputy Manuel, a sharp-eyed rookie with less than a year at KCSO, located a man walking in the middle of the road who matched this description,” police said. “When she ordered him to stop, he refused and took off running again. As he was pursued the man threw a loaded black handgun on the ground and eventually gave up and was arrested by deputies.”

Turns out the suspect is a convicted felon with an extensive criminal history who is not allowed to possess a handgun.

Further investigation revealed the man had shot at a vehicle earlier in the afternoon, striking the car.

“We commend Deputy Manuel who was key in bringing this incident to a peaceful conclusion. She used her observation skills to locate the suspect, bravely gave chase, and got an armed felon off the street who represented a substantial danger to the public.

“Please join us in giving a shout out to Deputy Manuel! We really appreciate her!”
