The King County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a recent traffic stop resulted in much more:

Stolen car. Stolen gun. Ammunition. Stolen documents. Handcuffs. Narcotics.

A White Center deputy found these items during a routine traffic stop on May 10, 2921 at 1:52 a.m., in the parking lot of a grocery store in the 9600 block of 28th Ave SW (map below).

The deputy first checked the plate number and it appeared to belong to the vehicle. The deputy then told the driver he needed to verify the vehicle identification number (VIN). The VIN on the dash was very difficult to read and appeared to have been tampered with. Because of this, the VIN from the driver’s door was used and the vehicle came back as stolen. The occupant was handcuffed and informed that he was under arrest for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Incident to arrest, a search of the driver found a holstered handgun in his front waistband. The firearm, a Ruger LC-9, had a fully loaded magazine and a round in the chamber.

A run of the gun’s serial number confirmed that it was stolen from a Federal Way burglary.

A search of the stolen vehicle found several rounds of ammunition, two pairs of handcuffs, real estate documents, and narcotics.

Deputies were able to link the real estate documents to a recent burglary in the city of Burien.

The male occupant was transported to the King County Jail on charges of Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and Possession of a Stolen Firearm.

As a reminder, we do not show suspect’s faces until they have been formally charged.
