Bok a Bok, a popular local fried chicken chain, has closed its White Center and University District locations, citing the financial strain caused by reliance on third-party delivery apps.

The closures bring an end to eight years of business in White Center and five years in the U-District.

In a statement shared on Instagram, the restaurant thanked its loyal customers but acknowledged that the financial reality of operating with thin margins, exacerbated by third-party delivery services, made the locations unsustainable.

“The third-party apps were great for exposure but made margins so thin that those orders didn’t count after it was all said and done,” the statement read.

Bok a Bok expressed gratitude to customers who supported its self-delivery efforts but noted that not enough orders shifted from third-party apps to its website to make a difference.

The restaurant encouraged fans to continue supporting its remaining locations in Capitol Hill and Kirkland to help keep the business afloat.

Their now-closed White Center location was at 1521 SW 98th Street.
