Recently, Seattle-based Mr. B’s Meadery purchased the Center Tool Rental building, located at 9444 Delridge Way in White Center, and plans on moving their production unit and opening a new tasting room at that location.

Center Tools (a longtime, former Advertiser on this website) had been a fixture in White Center for 50 years or so, and was owned and operated by Doug Stevens, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Mr. B’s Meadery is a husband-and-wife team (Brandon Eller and Krista Cochran) that makes mead. They currently have a small tasting room in Fremont which is known for its unique vibe and a production unit in SoDo. They plan on relocating their production to their newly-acquired White Center location, and making this the forever home for their business. Their Fremont tasting room will continue to serve that community as well.

“Purchasing this building is a life changing event for us.” Mr. B said.

If you didn’t know yet, mead is an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting honey with water, sometimes with the addition of fruits, spices, grains, or hops. Often referred to as “honey wine,” mead is one of the oldest known alcoholic drinks, with historical records of its production dating back thousands of years across various cultures. Its alcohol content can range from mild to strong, and it comes in a variety of styles, including still, sparkling, dry, sweet, and everything in between. Mead can be flavored with a wide array of ingredients, making it highly versatile and customizable to suit different tastes.

If you’ve been to their Fremont tasting room, you know that it’s a very small space which limits the amount of patrons they can serve. With this new location, they’re planning to keep the same community feel in a much larger space. They’re also excited to provide easier access for their patrons from South Seattle.

“We’re excited to become a part of one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Seattle.” Mr. B, who grew up in this community, said. “White Center is truly a unique part of Seattle that we love.”

They plan to open as soon as time allows – hopefully by early 2025. The building is almost 100 years old and needs some major repairs – concrete leveling and installation of a walk-in cooler to start. They’ve started a Kickstarter to raise at least $20,000 to help with the remodeling of the building.
