Denny-Sealth Performing Arts will host its first annual Rent Party Fundraiser this Sunday, May 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Kenyon Hall in West Seattle, according to event organizers.
The jazz themed fundraiser will support the organization’s growing performing arts programs, with a focus on expanding the jazz program to include two jazz bands. Kenyon Hall is located at 7904 35th Ave SW (map below).
Organizers said the event draws inspiration from historic Rent Parties that helped shape early 20th century jazz culture by bringing neighbors together for evenings of donated food, drinks and live music to help raise money for rent and community needs.
“Our party may not technically be raising rent money, but we’re inviting the community to enjoy an evening of jazz, drinks, and good vibes in beautiful Kenyon Hall to help us make a thriving home for our growing music programs,” organizers said in event materials.
The fundraiser will feature performances by both of Chief Sealth International High School’s large jazz ensembles, Jazz Combos 1, 2 and 3, the Jazz Trio with guest vocalists and instrumentalists, Ari Peck on the Wurlitzer, and the Seattle Jazz Network.
According to Denny Sealth Performing Arts, the event is open to parents, students, friends and jazz enthusiasts from around the South King County area.
Organizers also thanked sponsors and donors supporting the event, including Kenyon Hall Management, Reubens Brews, Georgetown Brewery, The Locol, West Seattle Thriftway, WestSide Baby and the Seattle Jazz Network.
