White Center has welcomed an exciting new addition to its vibrant community: Strong Life Training, a family-owned gym that promises more than just workouts—it’s a place to train, grow, and connect.
Founded by Claire and Kyle, two passionate fitness enthusiasts with deep ties to the area, Strong Life Training is the culmination of a decade-long journey to create a space where people can focus on their goals and thrive.
For Claire and Kyle, the decision to open their gym in White Center was an easy one. Claire was
born and raised in the neighborhood, while Kyle has called the area home for over 20 years. Their
roots in the community inspired them to build something meaningful for the people around them.
Claire, a former case manager in King County’s PCAP program, found that the tools she used to
help women battling addiction could also empower clients in the fitness world.
“Regardless of the goal, whether it’s recovery, health, or performance, it’s about empowering people to move forward,” she said.
The path to opening Strong Life Training was anything but smooth. The building, located at the
corner of 98th and 14th Ave SW, was originally the White Center Post Office, then became a tortilla making factory for decades. Once the tortilla factory was sold to La Mexicana and moved to Renton, the building remained vacant waiting for the perfect tenant.
Originally planned for 2020, their dream was delayed by the pandemic, prompting them to convert
their detached garage into a makeshift training studio. For four years, this humble space nurtured a loyal group of clients who believed in their vision. When the time came to expand, Claire and Kyle found the perfect building in White Center – a former post office and tortilla factory with the high ceilings, parking, and outdoor space they needed. After over a year of pursuing the location, they finally made it their own.
Building out the gym was a labor of love. Claire and Kyle took on most of the demolition and
remodeling themselves to keep costs down, balancing this massive project with running their
training studio and Kyle’s full-time IT job. Amid the chaos, they also welcomed their second child.
Eleven months later, their hard work paid off, resulting in a space designed to meet the needs of a
diverse fitness community.
Strong Life Training isn’t just another gym. It’s a carefully crafted environment where people can
train without distractions. Unlike the big-box gyms or franchises in the area, Strong Life Training
offers a personal touch. The gym caters to everyone, from beginners to bodybuilders, powerlifters,
and strongman athletes, with specialized equipment rarely found under one roof. “Our gym is a
place to train, not just workout,” Claire explains.
“Whether you’re preparing for a competition or striving for a healthier lifestyle, we’ve created a space where you can focus.”
One of the gym’s standout policies is its no-tripod rule, a decision that reflects its commitment to fostering a safe, distraction-free environment. While recording is allowed for milestones, personal records, or form checks, content creation is not part of the gym’s culture.
“We’ve had potential members walk away because of this, but we’re standing firm,” Claire says. “We want to maintain a space where working out is the priority, free from the entitlement and distractions of influencer culture.”
Strong Life Training recently celebrated its grand opening with special offers, including waived sign-up fees for standard memberships and 10% off group training classes for up to a year with no long-term contract. These deals, extended for readers of this article, provide an excellent opportunity for locals to experience what makes this gym unique.
For Claire and Kyle, Strong Life Training is more than a business—it’s their way of giving back to
the community.
“It’s taken us a decade to plan, save, and create this gym,” Claire reflects. “We’re so fortunate for every client who has chosen us to be part of their fitness journey. Our members are the reason we get to do what we love.”
Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just starting your fitness journey, Strong Life Training
welcomes you with open arms. The gym’s inclusive, focused atmosphere ensures that everyone has
the tools and support they need to succeed.
