The Rat City Art Walk will hold a soccer-themed celebration from 5–8 p.m. this Thursday night, July 16, with live music, performances, free art activities, prizes and a scavenger hunt at participating White Center locations, according to organizers.

The event is supported by sponsorship from King County Local Services, including Roads, Permitting and Community Service Areas, and the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, according to the announcement. Organizers said the sponsorship is helping create their “biggest and most interactive Art Walk yet.”

The July Art Walk will feature live music and performances, free caricatures, interactive art activities, live painting, food specials and other surprises at different stops.

The soccer scavenger hunt will invite visitors to stop at four participating locations: Future Primitive, Patrick’s Bakery & Café, Salvadorean Bakery and Nepantla Cultural Arts Gallery. Participants will look for a soccer floatie and collect a soccer sticker at each stop.

Visitors who collect all four stickers can redeem their completed scavenger hunt card at Puffy Pandy for a limited-edition Rat City soccer scarf while supplies last, according to organizers.

Rat City Art Walk is a nonprofit organization powered by volunteers and donations. Its mission is to create space for artists to showcase their work for free while making art accessible to artists and the community, according to organizers.

Organizers said White Center’s Rat City nickname traces back to World War II, when a military base called the Relocation and Training Center, or RATC, was nicknamed the R.A.T. Center by locals. Over time, the name became Rat City, a nickname the neighborhood now embraces.
